“Safety” – A way of life

“Safety” – A way of life

Safety is a nature of all creature on this earth . Every one wants to be safe and secured for his/her survival. But  there is always  a question in everybody’s mind – Who is responsible for safety ?  . This needs to be examined and exercised . Whenever any casualty or unpleasant or unwanted incident happens, people blame to someone else or the systems or Govt. except themselves. There are safety guide lines provided by the experts to investigate the incident  to understand the right causes  and thereafter take  corrective action to avoid  the  reoccurrence in future. We would like to quote few examples of our country:

1. Crash of Helicopters  - repetitive incidents and loss of VIPs
2. Fall of baby in  abandon borewells  - repetitive incidents and loss of innocent babies.

Who is responsible for such reoccurrences  ?  Is the Govt responsible or  someone else ?

Such repetitions are also happening in our day to day personal as well as professional areas of operations.

There are slogans, awareness programmes, safety day celebrations, safety rules, act and so many other initiative and  measures   taken by the authorities to educate people and enforce the safety culture with a target of zero injury  or zero loss of persons or  properties  etc.

A self intro - inspection is must. Safety is every one responsibility, wherever he/she is – at home, on road ,  picnic spot or   workplace. One has to be aware of his situation at every moment of time. What precaution or safety is needed should come naturally in mind . A serious concern by all means is essential to educate people to make safety a way of life.

Mining Engineering curriculum has inbuilt system of safety. There are Govt. regulations, guidelines, rules and act in place to safe guard the interest of mining professionals, mine work force , environment  and public or society in general. Regular programmes and audit systems are in place by professionals/authorities to ensure the compliances and also motivate people to develop a culture of safety.

Ambuja Cements Limited  have  established a system of OH&S  across the country in all locations as per  Holcim Safety pyramid guidelines.  People at all the  levels have been  educated and trained to understand the concept and methodology. Ambuja has employed  adequate nos of safety professionals at Corporate and plants level to ensure the compliances and proper implementation of the Safety systems . Holcim have a very strict and systematic systems , guidelines in the form of manuals, prepared by professionals to  fulfill the requirements  the international safety norms. Safe work practices in any organization/establishment/plant   ensure good housekeeping, productivity improvement, smooth  operations and a profitability. Let us join hand to make  Safety a way of life and make our Country, Organisation , plant & home a safe place to work.
