Sustainability...............need of hours..........

System Sustainability ............. need of hours ..........
Some time we think on our success ,  achievements and compare with others. Afterward our mind start blaming either management , situations or others for non performance or deficiencies. This is a normal tendency of modern world of physical progress and prosperity.
This causes or give birth to dissatisfaction and resulting adverse effect on personal life and at large in society. Corruption , violence  & imbalances in society are some of the undesired effects.
Who is responsible ?
Whether our education system , society at large or adoption of modern developments ? because we heard normally people talk or blame either of one and made responsible it.
Challenge with us is “ how to overcome ? ”  . A simple way is to examine your self or in other ward introspection where the role of spirituality comes in to picture.
No one is against the development either physical or mental and  these are necessary for sustainability  of any Society, Nation or world community at large . Now a days we talk about sustainability reports in organisation and wants the confirmation, commitment. We need to decide sustainability parameters for
Individual
Family
Society
Organisation
Country
World
More are less parameters are set and time to time authorities review and modify them . The question is how judicially or sincerely parameters are implemented or followed by us. Ultimate responsibility lies on each individual. Moral values plays important roles and helps individuals stick to sustainability parameters. Spirituality provide morality and balances the physical and mental progress. There is a great need and concern of all to work together and take responsibility and start  journey. All required resources and support systems are available around us. Identify them as per  choice and convenience and go forward to reform this world a peaceful place for all creature !!!!!

My Personal experience - Spirituality ............

My personal experience in spiritual path.
Word spiritual was not known to me in my early ages, when i was in school and colleges, even on service period. I was blessed with Guruji Acharya Shriram Sharmaji, founder of Gyatri Pariwar in childhood as my father was his follower. I saw my father doing mala - japa  regularly, but i never asked him about all these activities, simply followed without any knowledge of spirituality/religion or meaning of Guru ??? etc. During my service tenure somewhere in the year 1990 when i attended a short term professional course at NITIE ( National Institute of Training in Industrial Engineering) , Vihar lake, Mumbai as a part of training(Optional) they offered morning Yoga session for 1 hours. I was very keen and attended that session for 5 days religiously. During a theoretical session one of the Professor explained the “ Astang Yoga” and its significance and subsequently practice of simple yogic postures necessary for working executives brought an awareness on me about Body, Mind and Spirit concept. From that day onwards my spiritual journey started. I started regular practice of Yoga and also shared my experience with my colleagues/friends. There after i come across various spiritual organisation and Gurus:
1 . Sidha Yoga Dham, Ganeshpuri, Thane (M.S.)
2. Anand Marg
3. Yoga Institute, Shantacruz, Mumbai
4. Sri Arvind Ashram
5. Bihar school of yoga
6. Sri Rajneesh
7. Satya Saibaba
8. Swami Shivkripanand of Navasari, Gujarat,
9. Art of living, Bangalore
10. Brahma Kumari’s etc.....
I Read their literature, listen to their discourses live as well on TV now of course  on computer.
When i analysed my life journey , i realised the importance of spirituality how it has helped me and my family. Today even after retirement i am not feeling any loneliness or feeling of emptiness. Some power is always with me inspiring and guiding  and providing strength. I inspired and now started blog with a name “ Spirituality at Work ”
This initiative may be useful to my friends and society to adopt spirituality in their own way and convenience. Spirituality is a third dimension of personality which balances physical and mental growth in right direction. I am blessed by Guruji Sri Sri Ravishankarji as Art of living teacher .  I do regular sadhana to keep myself in order. Guruji’s simple principle of life is
1.      Seva
2.      Sadhana
3.      Satsang
4.      Silence
5.      Smile
6.      Samarpan
All path leads you to same destination. People follow as per their convenience and choice.

A Simple way of Maintenance.........

Preventive Maintenance

Preventive maintenance is a planned maintenance carried out in any plant and equipment before it fails. Preventive  maintenance system works on the philosophy of “Prevention is better than cure” . Means we put our effort to maintain the health of the equipment in such a manner so that it never fails while in operation. In the preventive maintenance we know the time of stoppage i.e. when we are going to take up the maintenance and secondly we know the jobs to be done and requirement of the resources. That is why this is also called Periodic Maintenance
Preventive maintenance systems improves the reliability of any plant and equipment in operation and also avoid any major break down thus improve upon the availability of plant and equipment for operation at its full efficiency. Preventive maintenance also helps in better planning of resources and production thus ensure better service level.
Following are the main activities we perform in Preventive Maintenance:
  1. Cleaning
  2. Lubrication
  3. Overhaul
  4. Replacement
  5. Function test
Details of the preventive maintenance activities for a specific piece of equipment are obtained from the supplier’s manual, but these details may change as own experience is gained. The frequency for carrying out the activities can be based on statistical knowledge of the failure rate, of the specific plant or equipment.
This can be the experience of the supplier and, of course the experience gained at the plant over the years.
The periodic maintenance frequency can either be time based or production based.
The time based periodic maintenance is carried out in accordance with the planning calendar where the activities are listed with a fixed span of  time in between, whereas
The production based periodic maintenance is carried out when a specific amount of material has been produced or, as for rolling stock, when a specific number of kilometres of hours have been reached..
Now the latest trained in maintenance are on the philosophy “Just in time” where the machine conditions are monitored by special condition monitoring equipments and maintenance are carried out when it is essential in a planned manner. Now a day most of the plants are following this technique for better up keep of the equipment for production. This avoid unnecessary stoppage and improve the service level of the equipment.

Tips on Goal setting .......

                                      SETTING GOALS EFFECTIVELY

The way in which goals are set strongly affects the effectiveness of it.

The following points should be kept in mind while preparing for goal setting :

  • Positive Statement :   Goals should be expressed positively

  • Be Precise :   Set a precise goals, putting in dates, periods so that achievement can be measured, then you will know the exact goal to be achieved.

  • Set Priorities :  where there are several goals,  priorities them.   This helps to avoid feeling confused by too many goals, and helps to direct your attention to the most important ones.

  • Write down goals to avoid confusion and given them more force.

  • General principles for goal setting:
  Set Specific Goals:

Set specific, measurable goals. If you consistently fail to meet a measurable goals, then you can adjust it or analyse the reason for failure and take appropriate action to improve skills.

Insufficient Information:

Be clear , or have sufficient information of what you are trying to achieve and of the skills and knowledge to be acquired for the achievement of the goals.

Set goals that raise your average performance and make it more consistent.

Fear of failure :
Have no fear of failure. While identifying your goals and even if you are not able to achieve it, you should be satisfied for at least making an attempt and perhaps achieve it during the next review after knowing the factors that have not helped you to attain them. This will then increase your self – confidence and help you to take bigger risks.
When you are thinking about how to achieve goals, asking the following questions can help you to focus on the sub- goals that leads to their achievement:

  •     What skills do I need to achieve this?
  •     What information and knowledge do I need?
  •   What help, assistance, or collaboration do I need?
  •    What resources do I need?
  •    What can block progress?
  •    Am I making any assumptions?
  •    Is there a better way of doing thing

Simplicity - A way of life

Few quotes of simplicity :
In character, in manner,  in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simlicity
(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)
The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak
(Hans Hoffman)
There is a saying “ Simple living and high thinking ” What does it mean ? One should live a simple life. Now the question comes to our mind -  How to  make life simple ? There are three main aspects of human existence &  livelihood in general
                                                      Human                                      Livelihood
  1.                          Physical           Body                -                       Existence of physical world
  2.                          Mental             Mind                 -                       Creation
  3.                          Spiritual           Spirit                 -                       Mobility / Development or Energy

I gave the Title of my blog – Spirituality at Work (spirit is Divine Power )
As per science the simple definition of  Work = Force x Distance
Force = Mass x Acceleration . or = Mass X Velocity/Time, i.e.
Work = Mass  X Velocity X Distance/Time  ( Distance / Time = Velocity)
Work = Mass X Velocity X Velocity = Mass X Velocity²   = Energy as per Einstein formula
Work = Energy  Divine Power (spirit)
Now we may apply this simple principle to understand our existence or life . To move any thing Force or energy is must. Energy gives us motion ie work/action which gives us the desired results or outcome .
What is the  necessity of spirituality at work – The meaning of work as explained above is creation of existence or energy. Now sustaining that existence and mobility/development is possible through spirituality only. Spirituality provide discipline, control and freedom. It balances the energy and motion of creation which sustain and maintain the existence.
Spirituality is balancing the physical and mental creation of humanity with simplicity.
Vision 2020 is possible through spirituality at work i.e. application of simplicity in all  aspects of human existence and livelihood. Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was “ The man who believes in simplicity and he lived his entire life very simple with high thinking” He succeeded in his life with this simple principle “ Spirituality at work”. Spirituality helps him to create balance in his personality which has resulted in creation of excellence in mankind and scientific development.

Importance of Learning for improving the - Competency

Learning play a very important role in improving the Competency  of any individual.
Competency  of an individual in any working environment  can be focused basically in following two areas:

a)      Personal Competence
b)      Professional Competence

Management experts says  that Personal/Professional Development of an individual is basically responsibility  of :

 Individual himself:     70 – 80 %
 Boss:                           10 – 20%
 Organization:              10 – 20%

Individual needs to take initiative, Boss and Organization  facilitate  support and environment.
Some tips for enhancing competency :
We use our five senses for knowing our out side world. As per management research learning effectiveness :

            By sight:         75%
            By listening    13%
            By smell          03%
            By touch         06%
            By test             03%

Most of the Knowledge acquisition is through sight and listening.  In today’s environment use of Multimedia in class room situation, uses of TV at home are the examples of combined Audio/Visual aids. Because of this, learning effectiveness of an individual has increased. In a class room training and learning situation most of  the time individual need to listen . There are certain guidelines / barriers of good listening which one should clearly understand and practice in his personal as well as professional life for improving his Competency .

Some of the expert suggests the hierarchy or priority in an individual life situation is as under:

  1. Self
  2. Family
  3. Service or job
  4. Neighbors/Society
  5. Nation/World and so on……

First  you focus on your self, there is a saying also “ All Development start with
self development. You are the UNIT  of Family, Organization you are working, Neighborhood /Society , Nation , world and thus part of this Universe.
If every individual start with this philosophy, then the entire world will reform in one universal principle which will create unity and harmony. Rest other development will  follows automatically.
Let us focus on improving effectiveness of the self i.e.  the term Competency enhancement or
Personal Development which is the key to improve an individual. The development of  an individual has three dimensions .

Mental  / Physical / Spiritual.
Following 8 steps may help individuals to take care of all three aspects of personality development

1.      Practice of the moral virtues – Truth, Non violence, Non stealing, Equality & Non accumulation
2.      Regular habits of purity, contentment, study, austerity, and self surrender to God.
3.      Posture i.e. Physical exercise for improving flexibility of body
4.      Control of the vital energy by breathing – exercise.
5.      Withdrawal of the mind from sense objects.
6.      Concentration
7.      Meditation
8.      Self realization

One can find the way to learn the above in his life from the environment, he is working and start practicing . Never wait for  the things, comes to you the way you want , rather
make the start the way things comes to you. Then , it will make the things happen the way you want.
These are  simple practices, which can improve the personality of any individual who wish to change himself.
